In 1873, Shiba, Asakusa, Fukagawa, Asukayama are specified as the first park in Japan by Dajokan proclamation. It used to be the area of Higashi Eizan Kanei Shrine in Edo period (1603-1868 CE). It became as government property after Meiji Restoration, then it has granted to Tokyo city through Imperial Household agency in 1924. At first it was centering on the main building of Kanei Shrine, mausoleum, Toshogu Shrine and its area. After that museum and zoo, art museum was built which makes it more cultural park.
